I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and 2021-22 Provost Faculty Fellow at California State University, Los Angeles as well as affiliated to the Honors College. I am a recipient of the 2022-23 Haynes Foundation Faculty Fellowship. Additionally, I am a Research Fellow at the Centre for California Studies (Cal State Sacramento), partially funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I am also a liaison to the Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP) - standing committee of the American Economic Association. I obtained my Ph.D in Economics from Texas A&M University, College Station.
My research focuses on housing segregation and the disparate impact of economic shocks on disadvantaged communities, crime in a socioeconomic context, violence against women, crimes against minorities and other unequal impacts of various policies. My expertise includes cross-sectional, panel and time series analysis using STATA, R and Excel, as well as geo-spatial analysis using ArcGIS. I use Matlab for quantitative analysis. Besides research, I am currently developing a program called Gateway to Employment for the students of Cal State LA and the local community. This program will help undergraduate and graduate students prepare for the job market. The program is sponsored by the Bank of America Philanthropic grant. I am also a member of the Cal State LA Foundation Board of Trustees and Cal State LA Academic Senate. In addition to that, I serve as the research coordinator for the College of Business and Economics to organize seminars, brown-bags, grant-writing as well as build research partnerships with stakeholders in the community.
